Join the Board of Directors at Jenga Future to Restore Nature, Empower People, and Build Climate Resilience.
The Opportunity
We're seeking passionate, strategic leaders to join our Board of Directors for a 3-year renewable term. This is your chance to guide an organization making tangible impact across five critical counties in Kenya's North Rift.
What You'll Do
As a Board Member, you will:
- Provide strategic direction and governance oversight to advance our mission of climate resilience through community-led innovation
- Participate in quarterly board meetings and serve on at least one standing committee (Finance, Programs, Advocacy, or Governance)
- Support fundraising efforts through personal giving, network connections, and donor cultivation
- Ensure fiscal responsibility and organizational sustainability as we scale our disaster prevention and adaptation initiatives
- Monitor programs across our three focus areas: Climate Education, Disaster Prevention, and Advocacy & Policy
- Serve as an ambassador for Jenga Future, amplifying North Rift community voices to regional and international stakeholders
- Bring your unique expertise to critical decisions about agroforestry projects, emergency response, and inclusive technology programs
What We're Looking For
We welcome candidates who bring:
- Deep commitment to climate justice, community-led development, and environmental restoration.
- Professional experience in areas such as nonprofit management, disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, finance, legal affairs, fundraising, agriculture/agroforestry, or community development.
- Understanding of or lived experience with climate-vulnerable communities (North Rift region experience is a plus).
- Strategic thinking and collaborative leadership skills.
- Ability to commit 8-12 hours monthly to board responsibilities.
- Personal alignment with our participatory approach and commitment to centering local voices.
- Diverse perspectives that strengthen our collective decision-making.
The Commitment
- Term: 3 years (renewable based on mutual interest and organizational needs)
- Time: Approximately 8-12 hours per month including meetings, committee work, and events
- Meetings: Quarterly board meetings (hybrid format available) plus annual strategic retreat in Elgeyo Marakwet
- Giving: Board members are expected to make a personally meaningful annual contribution and actively support fundraising initiatives
Why Join Us?
This isn't just governance—it's leadership with urgent purpose. In November 2025, a mudslide in Elgeyo Marakwet destroyed 151 households, killed 37 people, and injured 54 more. This tragedy is part of a pattern of perennial landslides and droughts that our programs work to prevent. Your strategic insights will directly shape how we tackle these life-and-death climate challenges through agroforestry, disaster risk reduction, and policy advocacy.
You'll work alongside dedicated changemakers, partner with organizations like Action Against Hunger, Kenya Red Cross, and the Mastercard Foundation, and help build a replicable model for community-led climate resilience.
