Roots for Resilience
Agroforestry for Climate Action & Livelihoods in Soy South
ย
Project Overview
Roots for Resilience is an agroforestry initiative by Jenga Future Initiative designed to restore degraded escarpment landscapes and improve livelihoods in Soy South, Elgeyo Marakwet. Through coffee planting and tree integration, we are helping local communities curb landslides and generate sustainable incomes.

Why Agroforestry in Soy South?
The escarpments of Soy South are prone to landslides, soil erosion, and declining farm productivity. Women and youth in the region, who depend on land for survival, face increasing climate and economic challenges. This project addresses those challenges through climate-smart coffee farming and tree-based land rehabilitation.

What Weโre Doing
- Tree & Coffee Nurseries: Establishing 3 nurseries to produce 100,000+ seedlings.
- Agroforestry Training: Teaching soil conservation, coffee growing, and tree planting skills.
- Landslide Control: Planting in high-risk areas to stabilize slopes.
- Radio Awareness: Weekly broadcasts via Tugetab Itondab Emet (Voice of the Environment).
- Green Jobs: Engaging 200+ women and youth in nursery and conservation work.
- Policy Advocacy: Working with local leaders to protect land and livelihoods.

๐ Long-Term Impact
- Stabilized escarpments and reduced landslides
- Improved household income through coffee agroforestry
- Empowered women and youth with new livelihoods
- Increased local leadership in climate solutions
- Sustainable land use replicated in other communities
